Why You Should Consider Buying an Inventory Home

Looking to buy a new home? Whether this is your first home purchase or your sixth, you’ll know that the number of decisions you need to make is overwhelming. If you decide to buy a brand new home, the number of decisions you need to make goes up by a factor of 10. That is, unless you buy an inventory home.

 

What is an inventory home?

An inventory home (sometimes called a “spec” home or a “quick move-in” home) is a brand new house that is already built and ready to move into. These homes have been professionally designed and finished to a high standard. Some inventory homes have been used as a show home for a development, in which case you’ll not only benefit from a move-in ready home but one that has been finished to the highest specification.

 

What are the benefits of buying an inventory home?

  1. It’s a Brand New Home

Unless you’re someone who loves to live in historic homes, the idea of inheriting someone else’s problems probably sounds more like a nightmare than a way to find your dream home. Even homes that have only had one owner have signs of wear that you may not notice until you get the keys. Unless you’re willing to put up with fixing things from the minute you move in, you need a brand-new home. An inventory home is ready to move into and will come with the builder’s warranty.

Looking for the fastest way to buy a home? Forget browsing local listings or waiting months for your new home to be built – there is no faster way than an inventory home. An inventory home is a brand-new empty home just waiting for you to claim it. All you need to do is buy and move in!

Ask anyone who has built a home from scratch how they enjoyed making all the decisions by the end of the process. Most people will look exhausted. While selecting your kitchen cabinets sounds like fun, by the time you’re picking out the handles for your guest bathroom, you’ll have had enough.

An inventory home is designed by a professional designer to modern and universally appealing. Chances are, they already choose the floors and cabinets you’re more than happy with, anyway. An inventory home is a beautifully-finished blank slate you can simply put your mark on.

Even the best software in the world can’t show you exactly what your new home will look like before you step into it. While we love the process of helping people buy and build their next home, nothing compares to stepping into a home, seeing it in person, and feeling the energy of the place. An inventory home allows you to do that.

 

  1. It’s the Most Stress-Free Way to Buy

Buying a home is never a stress-free experience. You’ve got to find a home, decide that it’s somewhere you can see yourself living for the foreseeable future, apply for a mortgage, wait for appraisals, and more. If you’re buying a preloved house, you’ve got to wait for the buyer to be ready to move and potentially have the stress of selling your home, too.

While we can’t promise buying an inventory home will be totally stress-free (selling your home and getting a mortgage is out of our hands!), it is by far the least stressful way to buy a home. The home is ready for you, it’s brand new, so you won’t get any nasty surprises, and you don’t have to worry about anyone moving out before you move in. Doesn’t that sound like a breath of fresh air?
